Our Opinion of Second Opinions
Being comfortable with your treatment plan is the most important aspect of syndactyly treatment. If you have questions about your doctor’s recommendations or are just curious, getting a second opinion is a great option.
Physicians are not offended by families getting second opinions and will often encourage them to do so. Many times, a treating physician will be happy to give you the name of another provider who specializes in the treatment of hand issues.
Some insurance companies will cover the cost of a second opinion, some do not. Always check with your carrier. If you seek out a second opinion, be sure to bring along copies of existing X-rays and medical records. This information will be extremely helpful and eliminate the need for additional imaging.
As always, do not hesitate to contact us at director@nfsus.org if we can be of further assistance.
